The Village
Midway between Viseu and Douro river, you arrive at the village of Arnas through easy but unfrequented roads - in an fortunate oblivion. Ten km away from the romanic church of Sernancelhe, twenty from the castles of Penedono and Trancoso, as well from Nossa Senhora da Lapa (an age old pilgrimage site); a bit further away, it is worth noting the natural area of Lamosa, crossed by the Paiva river. In a high valley, it is a unassuming village where the old church`s bell still marks the daytime hours under the new vigilance of eolic towers. Here, as in many places in Portugal and wherever there is a sense of belonging, the visitor ventures at inconspicuous surprises. You will find centenarians chestnut trees, pious shrines by the paths, old buidings reconciled with the nature, creeks to bath among the granitic environment of Beira Alta. Care not about instagram pictures; but that you may revive the enthusiasm of the first encounters.
